Why Communicate?

Regular communication between the school and family is an important element of most school engagement plans. While schools are designed to meet local, state, and national requirements, this does not guarantee that each child will inherently receive the most appropriate education to meet his or her unique learning needs without some type of adaptations or accommodations. Open communication between all parties ensures that our students will receive an education that is properly guided and implemented. Sometimes parents will need to reach out to the school to request help when things aren't working for their child.

School professionals are familiar with school policy and educational practice; we are tasked with knowing what techniques work with a majority of children. On the other hand, each family holds a unique understanding of their own child. Collaboratively, we form a IEP team to meet the unique learning needs for children with many types of exceptionalities.
